The Bernalillo Solar Project is a proposed solar energy and battery energy storage project located west of Albuquerque in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, consisting of 400 Megawatts (MW) of solar generation and up to 100 MW of battery energy storage. The project is being developed by Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC, a company with a proud history of more than 25 years in renewable energy development throughout the U.S. Development of Bernalillo Solar started with conversations with landowners and local stakeholders in 2018.  Bernalillo Solar is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power over 135,000 average New Mexico homes.

The project received its Bernalillo County Special Use Permit in June 2023 and signed an interconnection agreement with Public Service Company of New Mexico in the same month. Bernalillo Solar submitted its New Mexico Public Regulation Commission Determination of Easement Width and Site Location permit applications in September 2024.

The project will generate tens of millions of dollars in local property tax revenues over the life of the project. These stable, long-term property tax revenues will benefit local schools, libraries, emergency services, and community services for decades.  In addition to the unique long-term economic benefits that the project will provide locally, Bernalillo Solar will provide many environmental benefits for future generations.
